• Q: Who should apply for postdoctoral training?
  
  A: Both basic scientists and professionals with clinical degrees are eligible. Professionals who hold one of the following degrees: MD, ND, DO, DDS, OD, DC, DNS, or PhD. Applicants should have a strong interest in CAM and should be able to provide evidence of the potential to make a contribution based upon exceptional abilities demonstrated during their graduate and/or professional education. Applicants will typically have graduated from excellent programs in medicine, nursing, dentistry, naturopathy, chiropractic, osteopathy or other clinically-oriented PhD programs. Also, PhDs in basic science wishing to conduct CAM-relevant research are eligible applicants. Some applicants may be in the midst of their careers, or in some instances will have recently completed training in their fields, but all should be interested in the challenges of CAM research and in acquiring the critical skills needed for testing CAM modalities, products or identifying the basic mechanisms underlying these.
  

• Q: What is the intended outcome for postdoctoral training?
  
  A: The outcome of the training is a highly qualified researcher/scientist prepared to compete successfully for research funding in the emerging field of CAM. Coursework available provides more than adequate opportunities through which postdoctoral trainees from diverse multidisciplinary backgrounds can develop the skills and knowledge needed for a successful career in conducting CAM-relevant research.
  

• Q: What is the time commitment for postdoctoral research training in CAM?
  
  A: Applicants should be prepared to make a two-year commitment to the CAM Research Training Program.

• Q: What are the costs/stipends associated with the CAM Research Ttraining Program for postdoctoral trainees?
  
  A: Tuition and fees are covered up to $3,000; then 60% of combined costs beyond $3,000 is covered. Health insurance is allowable for trainee and eligible family members. An annual NIH-determined stipend is available based upon years since completion of the applicant's doctoral program as shown below:

• Q: What is the application process?
  
  A: The application process involves hard copy materials, although instructions for completion of the application are Web-based (see Application Information). Applicants are notified by email and U.S. mail when the application packet has been received and assessed to contain all needed materials for review. Following the review process by the Steering Committee, applicants are notified by email. Applicants accepted must within two weeks from date of notification submit a letter of intent to pursue the CAM research training to reserve a postdoctoral trainee position.
