Learning Opportunities through the CSCAT
Predoctoral and Postdoctoral study and research experiences are available through CSCAT's CAM Clinical Research Program, depending on positions and availability of funding. Predoctoral trainees must be enrolled in a health-related doctoral program at the University of Virginia. See CAM Research Training Program for details.
Short-term learning opportunities at the University of Virginia for all undergraduate and graduate students through the CSCAT are many and varied.
Students have an opportunity to:
- assist with the creation and maintenance of a literature database;
- participate in the refinement of an Interactional Model of Pain that addresses individual differences, provider-patient interaction and clinical outcomes;
- participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of collaborative studies with interdisciplinary researchers and scholars in academic and service settings;
- screen and schedule patients to participate in selected studies;
- code and analyze pilot data for CSCAT projects;
- work with other students, pre- and postdoctoral trainees, and CSCAT faculty and collaborators in implementing the research process;
- examine the potential role of selected CAM practices and products in bringing about improved physical and psychological functioning and quality of life for individuals; and
- participate in the development of CSCAT-initiated grant proposals aimed to sustain CSCAT funding.
