Integrative Medicine Program

What is Integrative Medicine?

Integrative medicine is a total approach to care that involves your mind, body, and spirit.  At UVa, it provides therapies that complement standard medicine that can make you feel better and get through the treatments more effectively, and it may improve outcome.

For example, some people learn to use relaxation as a way to reduce stress during chemotherapy.  Others may learn to improve their diet in order to better maintain their weight and keep their strength during treatment.

From the moment your cancer is diagnosed, your life changes.

There are times when you may feel scared or uncertain about the future.  And there are times when you may feel grateful - for good friends, family, or excellent medical care.   You may be looking for ways to find some control in your life - things you can do to help yourself feel better.  Or you may be interested in learning how to live life more fully and give yourself the very best chance for recovery.

What our patients say about Integrative Medicine:
"Life is unpredictable. Take care of yourself and love each day!"
"My own health and well-being is in my hands and I have many options for care."
"There are many services available to me at UVA"
"The services that complement traditional medical techniques are convincingly important and there are so many more resources available than I realized."
"It is up to us! Do it! Take charge! No excuses!"
