Bioethics Group Elects UVA Professor President

Jonathan Moreno, director of the Center for Biomedical Ethics at the UVA Health System and Emily Davie and Joseph S. Kornfeld Professor of Biomedical Ethics, has been named president of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH). Dr. Moreno is a member of the Board on Health Sciences Policy of the Institute of Medicine. He is also a bioethics advisor for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Genomics Collaborative, Inc., and a Fellow of the Hastings Center and the New York Academy of Medicine. Moreno is the author of a half-dozen books on biomedical ethics and is a commentator and columnist for ABCNews.com and a guest on news programs, including ABC's World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News. Moreno has a Ph.D. from Washington University.

Moreno's term as ASBH president will take place during the 2004-05 academic year. The ASBH, which has over 1500 members, promotes the exchange of ideas and fosters scholarship, research, teaching, and policy development.
